It does equal Run, Escape…

Or that’s what I should do. I’ve been playing this game for eight years, almost daily, and I still remain an outlier. Yesterday I did two sinkholes, and while I got an acceptable number of combat and exploration totems in a pretty usual amount of time… the others players seem to have been in a mad dash and filled those totem quotas before I turned a single one in (yes, in both sinkholes!), leaving me just the chance to get some lousy resource totems. Usually I get 300-400 points in a sinkhole (which usually gets me into 4th or 5th (aka, last) place). This time? 80 points first sinkhole, 20 points second one. Not sure how I’m quite so lame. And then? When standing in the sinkhole treasure room I am unable to move until it’s all done, as usual, but three of the other players are running all over the room? I don’t understand how. Not a big deal, but just a pointer to how many things I don’t know. I asked the clannies but just got jokes in reply, so maybe none of them know either… maybe we’re all just too old.

And earlier in the week, I tried out the seasonal Dimension of the Damned event, in which you have an hour to run around and kill zombies and get points. The 1,000 players who score the most during an hour (you can try over and over as much as you want), make it into some kind of final. So I played a couple of times and got a top score of about 250,000. From what I could see, if I focused more I figured that I could maybe get double that in an hour and so I figured top players might get maybe two million points. Um… just checked the hiscores… the top score so far is 41,000,000? How the hell? They average three times as many points per minute than what I got in an hour? I’m so confused…

It all makes me miss the old days… Or my old days, anyway. I was rereading my old Runescape blog (mainly written between January 2011 – March 2012), and there is so much, well, basically everything, that I miss from the game in those days, before the thousand sticks that broke the camels back… Microtransactions (February 2012), Lodestones (March 2012), Bonfires (May 2012), Solomons Store/Cosmetics (July 2012), Evolution of Combat (November 2012, I didn’t really care about this one, but it turned off a huge portion of the player base)…
